Just received my copy of the "SCUTTLEBUTT" and I'm pleased to read that 612 has a website. My dad, squadron member Charlie 'Pop' Jennings has yet to enter the computer age, but I'll pass the word that 612 is online and maybe/maybe someone he knows will log on and give him a tour of the site.

Cheers and Semper Fi,

Robert C. Jennings

I would like to extend my deepest thanks to all whom served our country during this difficult time.My father SSgt Thomas J. Ress was a radio-gunner with VMB 612. Tom passed away in 1993. Any one that served with him please contact me. My father and I were never very close but I am trying to change that. I was a door gunner with the 2nd/8th First Calvary division 1969-1970.

I am the daughter of Tech Sgt. Earl Feldhaus who joined the squadron Feb. 15, 1944 as a navigator-bombardier. Earl is still with us in Cincinati, Ohio, but is in poor health. Pleased to find this site as it is difficult to get information from Earl.

Hello everyone,
I have a new e-mail address. I rembember meeting Harry Lee at the 1987 and a lot of other guys who flew with my dad. I did get the opportunity to speak with Francis M Russell. I have a small crew photo with Lt.Russell, Lt. Elwood Peters, T/Sgt Art Elikan, T/sgt Ivan Roberts, Cpl. William Winkleman, Cpl. William Cooley, and Cpl. John R. Stephens(my dad) I am also a former Marine and was a rifleman, M79 man(where I qualified with the 1911a1 pistol), then became a fire team leader (69-71).
John (Jack) Stephens was mighty proud to have served with all of you guys and told us boys all about it. Cpl. Stephens had twelve children,7 boys/5girls. To all the Vmb 612 guys and their wives and children, I was lucky and humbled to have met you all at the 1987 bash.
Semper fi (oorah!)
L/Cpl William R. Stephens

I am the son of Cpl. John R. Stephens. I was fortunate to have gone to the 1987 reunion.T/Sgt Ivan Roberts and the other guys who knew my father took me under their wing as one their own. Mr. Roberts told me on the phone that I had to come down to the Sheraton and represent my late father(d.1979) and my family. John Stephens was a gunner in Lt. Max Russel's crew.My father was in the first plane to score hits on a Japanese vessel. My father was in the plane with Col. Cram and Ivan Roberts on the first test run of the Tiny Tims off Iwo.
To all of the members of VMB 612, it was truly an honor to have met so many fine men who served with Cpl. Stephens. Semper Fi,fellas

Thanks to all of the veterans. My Dad J.B. McCloud Jr. was an aircraft mechanic in this squadron. He passed at age 54 in 1975; but was a proud Marine. My cousin told me about your site. I was glad to find out about it.

At last, it is great to see this outstanding site for VMB-612. Well done!

I am the nephew of John McCloud, one of 612's aviation mechanics. He passed away in the early 70's, but I will see to it that his son and daughters are made aware of this site.

Hello all. What a great site! I just decided to spend some time searching the internet and found this site. My father was Maurice E Fitzgibbon, pilot. Dad ended up ditching his plane on 20 April 1945, due to the Iwo Jima fog. Dad passed away 23 April 2004 (59 y 3d after the ditching). He was proud always proud of the job VMB-612 did and all the men he served with. My mom is still alive and still looks forward to getting her copy of The Scuttlebutt. I recognize some of the names here, Fricks, Bottalico, Balthrop.
